Unorganized Skong thoughts
10/3/2025
I decided to keep a little journal to document my thoughts and experience with Silksong, so here it is!
I only worked on this while playing BETWEEN streams. So if you'd like to see my on-stream activities, they might be up on my YouTube eventually! ...Or not! Idk I rarely upload vods anymore but I do HAVE every one of them, so if you're interested let me know. I might put them all up if there's interest
Also, this is intended for people who have played silksong, so that means spoilers, duh, and I also might reference things vaguely without really explaining in detail. If you have no clue what I'm talking about at some point because you forgot that part of the game...... uh sorry lol you can ask if you want-
I actually wrote this on the day it says but I'm only publishing it on the 30th of november, I literally made the page and everything but forgot to put it online???? Anyways enjoy lol
I had whiplash when I noticed that hornet's 1 hp idle pose is taken straight from when you beat her in hollow knight... I never thought I'd be thrilled about a reused asset but GUH C'MON it's HOLLOW KNIGHT I CAN'T HELP IT
Just noticed I had a rosery chain worth 120 so I broke that and got the hunter's march map, bench pin, and compass all at once lmaooooo
Found the switch to the bench that killed me. get FUCKED
Also it's so nice seeing where I ammmmmmmm oh my god
Holy shit I love this game's sprint ability so much
It changes EVERYTHING. Movement feels so much more fluid now...... It really is completely different.
It also makes the hunter's march parkour so much easier 💀
I've been worried for a while that maybe they showed too much in the trailers, as so far I've seen every boss and every area which was a little sad
... And then I got to bellhart. My jaw immediately dropped. Honestly even more fucked up than most things in hollow knight. Clearly they left PLENTY of surprises
Greymoor is my favorite area so far. Not sure why, it just has the most interesting vibe imo...
That boss that sits on the ceiling and spits at you was really annoying. Definitely my least favorite boss so far.. The only one that just felt frustrating
Also that robot thing was surprisingly underwhelming? Really easy. The boss difficulty really is all over the place lol. Random mooks are more consistently hard lolll
I was uh. Certainly surprised that Nuu gives the hunter's journal
I was more expecting something like. Shakra. Or that huntress we saw a while back before release. Or literally anyone else.
Okay I am honestly shocked that they kept wall climbing almost exactly the same
Hornet's moveset is extremely smooth and flowy, it's clear that's what they were going for with her. If there are two things that are the exact opposite of smooth and flowy... it's the mothwing cloak and mantis claw lmao
Obviously hornet's dash is a huge improvement over the cloak... So why'd we keep the weird clunky wall hop thing???? I guess they did add a wall run but it feels exactly the same but with a new button and minus the jump?? Like what??
(I'd like to edit this now that I've finished this journal... I've changed my mind, it feels weird at first but it meshes with the rest of her moveset really well, especially her air dash)
Also I'm really hoping we get to see some unshown areas soon
Bellhart was cool but come onnnnnn please don't tell me they showed literally every zone lol
OMGGGGG heheehehehehehe I'm so giddy there are multiple menu screens
I was really sad when I didn't see the option so I was so so happy when I got to the citadel :3
Okay, I LOVE the citadel. It feels like it's essentially taking the role of the city of tears. Except this one is 2x bigger
Both are these huge places that clearly housed hundreds of bugs, but now have this sort of serene emptiness. The music in both really cements that.
The city was one of my all time favorite areas in hollow knight and this is really getting there for silksong. It's so pretty tooooooo aaaa
Also it seems like I'm getting to the end but like? There's so much left what
I haven't met phantom or Trobbio, I haven't done lace's second fight which clearly takes place in an area VERY different from anywhere I've been. I haven't gone to the underwater place (maybe it's just missable but..?), we have barely seen void, and a lot of other stuff I can't think of right now. Like huh??
My theory right now is that it'll be similar to hollow knight, in that I'm about to reach the "final" boss right now, but to get the true ending/boss I'll need to do a bunch of other hidden stuff.
Post credits
died immediately after starting today. Didn't lose much money but oh my god I hate sinner's path-
I just got my first softlock! During the fight with Ass Jim after their first stagger they'll leave the screen. I'm not sure what they're supposed to do as of writing though because sometimes they apparently just.. don't come back. Ever.
My thoughts very gradually went from 'oh god what's he gonna do' to '...taking your time?' to 'okay he's not coming back, maybe he went to a new arena' to 'oh... this is super broken'
I really love blasted steps
it's such an atmospheric area and the PERFECT leadup to the citadel
The judge's fight basically jumpscaring you is also great
The walkback sucked tho
nail arts?????
With how complex Hornet's toolkit is I REALLY wasn't expecting that
Just found sands of karak and it is a really neat location but
1. it feels like sealand bait. WHERE. IS. IT
2. bench........... ngl the parkour challenge just to get TO the area alone feels like it warrants a bench
what the hell is the raging conchfly's runback
like? What?
I think it's neat they split the boss into two but like
I repeat: What
Today: Explored (maybe) all of sinner's path, fought Ass Jim, explored much more of Greymoor, traveled with the fleas to blasted steps, found a needle art and sands of karak, explored most of the latter, used the bell beast to go to the marrow, did a few quests, went to deep docks and explored much more of that location.
Around 50% of that was me trying to find seaworld. ...I didn't
Fought savage beastfly at my friend's request (kinda sad I didn't find it for myself but whatever..)
Anyways
MAN would that fight be awful without sprint or needle upgrades, I see the complaints
The beast crest is pretty neat. I'll never use it but it's neat-
I just got more money than I have from any other source at one time
From a big ant Did they even think about these rewards or just like. Kinda place things?
there's a journal entry where hornet mentions that fluffy, flying creature in fey mountain would make a good pet
bugs canonically keep other bugs as pets
I just got screwed over in the most extreme way possible
Went to far fields to go to a locked door, got jumped by the second savage beastfly, killed within two seconds, and then as I'm passing through the town in bone bottom a skull tyrant goes on a rampage and KILLS ME AGAIN
Idk how much money I had but ngl I don't think I could've prepared for any of that-
THAT LAVA CHASE SECTION WAS TERRIFYING
BUT I LOVED IT
The coliseum-esque wall fight was pretty cool too, only died once to that
Today: Fought savage beastfly, fought the second big ant, tried and failed the bellhart delivery quest, fully paid for bellhart's restoration and fixed my materium or whatever, went back to bone bottom and found the weaver place, got the first two upgrades, fought the two moss mothers, went to far fields for another weaver door, died to the second savage beastfly on the way, fought a skull tyrant after dying, got a tool that makes you sprint faster, and did the rising lava segment.
That weaver area was actually so cool. Whoever is locked up is EXTREMELY intriguing, and their area makes such a dramatic sound, it's so cool
It's also amazing the technology they had access to???
Went back to the weavenest to see if I could upgrade more, but it seems not
Still no idea what they mean by 'expanding my nature' or whatever lol
I tried with different crests equipped too, but nothing happened
I donated some shell shards in bonebottom for a new quest though, so it wasn't a wasted trip
Also bought another mask shard, giving me another mask (woooo), and basically finishing up with bonebottom's shop
Omg the hornet statue is so cute
And you can BREAK IT???
What the hell. No. Lmao.
Not like I need shell shards anyways pfft
The bonebottom one is cute too but less so
... either way it's staying
LMAO I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT NUU until I found them looting the body of that big cone creature lkfjwej
I love the secret dialogue you can get from the needolin
It's even better than the dream nail because since not EVERY. SINGLE. ENEMY. Has dialogue it feels more special when you find someone who does :3
I just found two today!
One at the coral tower and one at a gravesite in shellwood
Actually pretty proud of the second one :3
NUU AGAIN LMAOOOOOOO
Sinister splinter this time
Crack theory
So the two remaining areas I haven't found, that I know of, are the clover place and the ocean
But interestingly, there are implications that neither of them exist now
memorium's version of the former was closed off and dead, and sands of karak obviously looks a LOT like the ocean
So, theory: Hornet's building a time machine woooooo
WHAT. WHAT. WHAT. I was so happy to get rid of the twisted bud?? But like?? NOW WHAT?? This is so much worse!!!!
I loved, nearly every single part of that quest
The polip collecting was whatever, the baby was very silly though oh my gosh I wish I didn't have to deal with it for so long, and while of course vine lady seems sketchy it's still a surprise when you get Tentacled(tm). After that I.. Do feel like there's a bit too much of a lack in direction. I feel bad for anyone who doesn't end up in Bellhart right away like I did. But once you do start the road towards Yarnaby it's great. Obviously stressful as hell if you have any amount of money on you but I loved it, it's basically non-optional, temporary hard mode. Everyone has unique dialogue (that I talked to) as well, so it just feels so dynamic for a relatively unimportant quest. Even if it did bring me to sinner's path AGAIN it was a lot of fun.
My jaw dropped when I first woke up in the chapel with the new crest, and then I realized I couldn't heal, and THEN I realized I had ZERO clue where to go lmfaooo
Ended today's session by dueling shakra, which I only found by hitting her ring pole on complete accident
The fight was SO fun which is great since it gives you jack shit
OH I LOVE THAT CHANGING YOUR TOOL TO SHAKRA'S RINGS MAKES HORNET DO SHAKRA'S THING
SHAKRA EVEN RESPONDS IN KIND I remember seeing that in the trailer but I just assumed it'd happen as a cutscene or something
Also while I was checking that I FINALLY got a second marker
I've been needing a way to mark off locked doors for a while so I don't keep checking them thinking they're something else
Did a bunch more busywork Checked with Eva and got another upgrade, a blue one this time which is objectively the best
Fought grand mother silk again, nothing happened went to the slab and finished that area (probably) and found a connection(?) to karak I somehow missed? (update: Apparently not a connection)
OH MY GOD MY STUPID CRACK THEORY WAS LIKE 50% RIGHT THERE'S NO WAY
I'm also just so happy to finally see the ocean area after talking about it nonstop since the beginning of the game-
I didn't write about it here much but trust me, it was always at the front of my mind and I mentioned it.. quite a few times on stream
My train of thought went all over the place while I was talking to the shamans
I went from, oh, hornet has to leave pharloom to find the flower, that's where the ocean is.
To: Oh, hornet is getting the flower from her memories. Uh okay, I guess the ocean must be there? So she's been there already I guess??
To: Oh, I have to go to coral tower. So the ocean. Must have been hidden there the whole time?????
I've never had a game's ending make me so happy I nearly cried, at least not before silksong
That end alone makes everything I had to go through to get there MORE than worth it
It's such a perfect ending besides being full circle, with the knight repaying hornet for saving them in the cave in and helping with the hollow knight, but also because it proves that the knight ISN'T the empty vessel they were meant to be, they really do care about Hornet and I just have no words for how happy that makes me.
It also shows that both of the non-radiance endings definitely don't go well but that's besides the point-
This game really was amazing. (I say was but I'm only at 60-ish% as of writing)
There were SO many rough patches but also so many things it does far better than hollow knight
Very much rough around the edges but so, so worth pressing through.
Reminder that I did not write about a majority of things that happened during stream! If I didn't talk about something you'd like to see, it was probably covered there :3 (or I just didn't find it that notable idk)
If I haven't uploaded my vods by the time you're reading and you wanna see my reaction to something....... uh ask lol, my discord is mothamiri or I have a chatbox right on my homepage
